The last several years have been challenging for anyone planning a new home. A major commitment of time and financial resources, balanced against continually changing economic conditions, requires a highly personal decision. We now see conditions stabilizing and new clients, who have “waited long enough,” proceeding.
FUNDAMENTAL CHANGES IN HOUSING
I have been involved in my family’s business for nearly 50 years and recall many market downturns after which all returned to normal. In contrast, this emerging recovery is into a fundamentally changed world with new long-term priorities in housing:
- Energy efficiency will remain a high priority as costs continue to rise
- Sustainability and the efficient use of material will grow in priority as worldwide demand and costs increase Demand for smartly designed flexible, naturally lit and ventilated interiors, compensating for continued downsizing will be highly valued
- Mortgage financing will be available but with greater restriction
- Simplicity in both process and design to mitigate the growing demands of concurrent professional, community, family, and personal priorities
LINDAL HAS PLANNED FOR TODAY
Planning for a renewed and changed market, we have worked purposefully to refine our products and services. We have:
- Introduced over 25 new designs that are under 3000 square feet. Over half of our library of standard designs is now under 2500 square feet
- Updated every Classic Lindal design to enhance efficiency and modernized many floor plans
- Introduced the modern Turkel Designs for the Dwell Homes Collection and the efficient Elements designs. Lindal now offers the largest portfolio of modern designs available from any producer
- Improved the energy performance of windows and other components Become America’s first Green Approved building system; sponsored the education of Lindal dealers as Certified Green Professionals

We have two Lindal Homes in the family and would consider purchasing another one for the future for another property that we own.

We built our Lindal home in B.C., almost 1000 km away from our old home in Saskatchewan. We used the Sask. Lindal dealer for our long-distance project and never regretted one moment of our decision.
We moved in exactly 4 years ago

It is amazing you survived..this far, that is for sure! Even Centex is gone…..if you are around in a couple of more years…well we certainly will be building that Dwell..if the banks want to lend a dime or two.

So encouraging to see professionals taking people, needs and changing times into consideration. This is key to understanding why some stay in business for so long. Wishing you the very best for the future.

Hi Lindal Homes,
Personally my lifestyle has changed over the years also. With just me at home now I am looking for a VERY small, simple, frugal design. To me, and for me, this would be a much for energy-friendly and prudent way to go.
This may be out of the mainstream for you, but I have noticed all of your designs are futurisitic and much more opulent than I am seeking.
Thanks,
Barry Shanley

in the late 90s and early 2000s i wanted to buy some property about a 1/4 mile away from my house and build a lindal cedar home. my dream home. i tried to get the rep out here to sit down and talk with me but he took one look at me and said i couldn’t afford one! i mean i already was buying my second home and had good equity in it and a good income. but he didn’t even bother to look at any of that. i complained to lindal’s main ofice but they just gave into the rep. i didn’t buy the property or sell my house as i wouldn’t be able to build the house i wanted. and who would want to work with a person like that.based on this i wouldn’t recommend anybody build one in the sonoma county that this rep works in. its amazing in this day that one person can decide your fate just because he’s (in my opinion) a jackass.

Aloha Mr.Grossman! Am interested which Dwell model you like so much, as we’re considering building in Hawaii. By the way, has anyone tried substituting some of the wood walls with poured concrete, or some other material? We’re concerned about termites in Hawaii (don’t want chemicals)and wouldn’t be that keen to treat the wood.

Hello Mr Shanley! Thank you for your comment, I think you would be very interested in our Lindal Elements designs. I invite you to attend a webinar next week to learn about them, please take a look at http://lindal.com/elements/ for more information. Our local dealer in Kalamazoo will be able to answer your questions as well. His name is Ken Whipple: http://lindal.com/manitou/

Aloha Ms Booth! As you may know, cedar contains oils that are a natural repellent to pests, termites included. I lived in a Lindal home on Oahu (north shore) as a child, and we have built hundreds of Lindals all over the islands… they are well-suited for the views and climate, and stand up well to everything the tropics throw at them! Our dealer in Hawaii is located on Kauai, please feel free to contact him if you’d like to ask more questions about the suitability of a Lindal for your needs, including the Dwell homes: http://lindal.com/homes/locateDealer/results.cfm?id=2983

Dear Bob Lindal,
Lindal home designs and materials are second to none. Lindal dream home catalogues have been on our book shells or coffee tables for years. I will be building in the next few years.
Bob have you considered a presence in the emerging economies? Brazil’s economy is growing and full of opportunity including a booming housing market. In 2014 they are hosting the World Cup (soccer) and in 2016 the Olympic Games. The infrastructure needs are huge and great source of opportunity and economic growth.
I moved to Brasil 6 years ago and would be interested to meet and discuss.
Best Regards,
Mike Vale

We had the unexpected disappointment to have been stood up twice by one of your sales reps.
Twice we made appts. he no showed for.
Both times my husband and I took time off from our business and our jobs to meet him.
He told us that getting our house built before end of Fall would work fine. We were excited to hear his enthusiasm …worst of all we believed him. We told him we what our budget was to invest in a home around 1040 sq. ft.
Everyone is busy…I understand that…but he did not even apologize or respond to our calls or email letting him know we no longer think we will use Lindal Homes due to standing us up showing poor work ethic and professionalism
We have lost trust in Lindal.
I have not mentioned his name …but can supply it if needed.
I own a business – I know what I would do with an employee who performed this way.

Mr. Forstner, please allow me to apologize for the behavior of one of our former associates. I would like to personally assure you that if you ever decide to revisit the idea of engaging Lindal to help you make your dream home a reality, we will show you the kind of exceptional service that our clients have come to expect for over 66 years.
Comment by Trina Lindal — June 28, 2011 @ 3:10 pm
Mr & Mrs. Junck, I apologize for the treatment you received from one of our sales reps. We of course would like to know who your rep was, so we can take appropriate action.
At Lindal we believe in Trust, Accountability, Open Communication, and Integrity (as stated in our Mission Statement), and we hope that you can help us in that mission. You can reach me personally at TrinaL@Lindal.com: I will make sure that your experience is not repeated – both for you, if you were to choose to work with another dealer from Lindal, and also to improve the experience of others.
